In Loving Memory of Annie Pootoogook

Annie Pootoogook: 1969–2016

A poem for Annie Pootoogook by Dana Claxton September 24th, 2018

Annie Annie in the sky
Annie Annie we all cry
Your brilliance shone so bright
will last forever into a billion nights
dancing as you go
to that place where the ancestors roll
Annie Annie please know
you are loved with all our might
and as you go to that place
I love you Annie and with an embrace
dont want to let you go
cuz yous so sweet so fine so kind
Rarity comes to mind
and as we's go on without you
knowing your legacy was so true
will try and do our best
as you shone through all the rest
As you fly and circle us
Know Annie you are pure like a dove
A beautiful red dove from the north
I feel so much remorse
But your shining brilliance will keep on course
Cuz you gave so much with such humility
and as you have tea where the ancestors roll
I thank you Annie for your see
The way you showed your see truly truly was rarity.
