Geoffrey Farmer Will Represent Canada at Venice Biennale in 2017

Vancouver artist Geoffrey Farmer will represent Canada at the 2017 Venice Biennale.Farmer was chosen by a selection committee gathered by the National Gallery of Canada and consisting of Daina Augaitis, chief curator and associate director at the Vancouver Art Gallery; Josée Drouin-Brisebois, senior curator of contemporary art at the National Gallery of Canada; Mark Lanctôt, curator at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal; Marc Mayer, director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada; and Kitty Scott, the Carol and Morton Rapp curator, modern and contemporary art at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Scott will curate Farmer’s work at the Canada pavilion; Drouin-Brisebois will be project director.Deputy editor David Balzer spoke with Farmer by phone from his Vancouver studio about the excitement and challenges of the next year and a half.
