CONCURRENT: ANDY DIXON & LES RAMSEY

Andy and Les showcase bright and bold large scale works. We are very excited to be exhibiting these two works side by side as they jump out and evoke the feeling that summer is finally here!

Andy Dixon
Summering #2

Andy Dixon’s unconventional use of colour challenges the parameters of his romantic, refined subject matter, breaking down its idealism to reveal alternative narratives and aspects. Informed by the great masters of the past- Rousseau, Matisse, Picasso- the Canada-based artist approaches aristocracy with grunge, shocking hues and a daring attitude to the application of paint." – Rebecca Hossack Gallery

Andy Dixon is an artist who lives and works in Vancouver. He has exhibited in London, New York, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver, Tokyo, Portland, Austin and Montreal. Dixon is known for his bright colourful works that combine painting and oil pastels.

Les Ramsay

Penelope

This body of work was originally conceived through my interests in material object hood. These paintings tap into iconic representations of painting histories recreated through domestic craft and textiles, and further assembled into large formal abstractions. This play between craft and painting cycles through various stages of this work and re-activates core inquires into the medium of painting considered from a contemporary perspective.
Les Ramsay currently lives and works in Vancouver, BC. He’s studied visual arts at the Emily Carr University, at the Universitat de Politecnica in Valencia and has most recently completed his MFA in the Painting & Drawing department at Concordia University. His work has been exposed in Canada, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, and in the United States.
