Tala Madani, Stick Up, Oil on Linen, 35.6 x 27.9 cm, 2013

Tala Madani (b. 1981, Iran) is a figurative artist based in Los Angeles, California whose creates saturated and cartoon-likepaintings, always with an underlying sense of irony.  Her scenes often depict older (and at times balding) men in embarrassing or violent scenarios, but through her simplification of form and colour palette they seem light-hearted and comedic on the surface.  Madani was featured in the recently published artist book "100 painters of tomorrow", which you can check out here

Fiona Ackerman was shortlisted for this publication last year.
