Anna Bjerger, Untitled, 2010

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by Anna Bjerger.

Based on found images from books culled from thrift shops and yard sales, Bjerger's diluted portraits inhabit peculiar, specific poses that belie their ghostly anonymity. "Through painting I am able to shift the hierarchy in the image and bring forward a different version of the recorded instant," she says. "The physicality of the paint, the variable structure of the surface and the focus on dimension serves to intensify the experience of looking."
