ECUAD AWARD WINNERS CONRAD SLY AND SOLEDAD MUNOZ

Soledad Munoz & Conrad Sly, Field Work, 2013

Conrad Sly and Soledad Munoz are the joint recipients of the President's Media Award for an Installation/Interactive work.

Their work, Field Work, is a combined piece using Sly's Northern Destiny and Munoz's Intangible Fields, both of which explore the contemporary use of technology in our daily lives. As a viewer moves around the installation, Munoz' work — an ominously hovering cross thatched with charged copper wire — picks up minute changes in its environment and feeds this data back into the room as sound. Projected on wall-mounted screens, Sly's floating, disorientating CGI shifts and regenerates seemingly also in response to these "affective encounters".  Unshakably futuristic, Field Work's transportative effect is bolstered by the inclusion of "green-screen green" plinths and grids that become a striking physical presence amidst the installation's more immaterial components.
