ECUAD AWARD WINNER NATHALIE LAVOIE

Nathalie Lavoie, Clepsydras, 2013

The winner of this years Governor General’s Gold Medal is Nathalie Lavoie.

Her work "Clepsydras" depicts 9 water clocks. These clocks once kept time; however, out in the minus thirty degrees Celsius weather on the Mackenzie River, the water froze leaving the clocks frozen in place and time. The installations were created utilizing a Canada Water Survey team’s drilled holes and sticks, after the surveyors recorded the river’s depth, current velocity, and ice thickness at each location.
