TOTEM: A COMMISSION BY LUKE PARNELL

Artist Luke Parnell is currently working on a totem pole commission and we wanted to share his interesting work progress with you guys.

For this project, Parnell began by interviewing the client to find out as much about them as possible, since the totem is meant to represent individuals that they hold dear. According to the artist, he chose a bear as the main figure, representing the mother, because of the Haida bear mother story (a Native American legend). To represent the father, he chose the raven because to Parnell he came across as the industrious sort. They have three children, two boys and a girl: the youngest (and apparently the hardest working) son is represented by a beaver and his brother by a seal for his love of the sea. Eagle was chosen to represent the daughter for her sense of fashion.

We are very excited to see the final result - the progress is looking fantastic! Check it out below...
