Enrico Nagel, Behind the Glass

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by Enrico Nagel and Winsor Gallery's Alex Quicho. 

An alluring play of chiaroscuro, movement, and depth of field characterize Nagel's most recent series of work. Though something about them evokes classical portraiture -- the presence of gold leaf, luxurious cloth, and wildflowers, perhaps -- they are assembled and produced on a humble scanner bed. This technique becomes strangely, magically striking -- hair and fabric is sharpened up, while faces, catching the moving band of the image sensor's light, blur and recede into darkness.
