HAPPY PORTRAIT MONDAY!

Tom Zummer, Portrait of Alpha Smoking V2, 2002

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by Tom Zummer and Winsor Gallery's Sunshine Frere.

Zummer's robot portraits are hyperrealistically rendered in graphite, most often against plain grounds that are reminiscent of photo-studio drop sheets. Completed ambidextrously, they are so true to light, shade, and form that they become a trompe-d'oeil of sorts, seeming to be clipped out of a vintage Popular Science as opposed to rendered in graphite by hand(s).
