HAPPY PORTRAIT MONDAY

Winnie Truong
Twin & Twine, 2012
Pencil crayon on paper
112 cm x 173cm

Today's Portrait Monday is brought to you by Winnie Truong and Winsor Gallery's Alex M. F. Quicho.

Toronto-based artist Winnie Truong creates masterfully rendered drawings that, in their bizarrely grotesque beauty, play with our experience of desire, attraction, and repulsion. These disembodied portraits occupy such varied terrain as biological anomaly, pageantry, the social conventions of grooming, high fashion, far Northern culture, and excess -- and, while doing so, come very much alive with shining eyes and open, vulnerable expressions that somehow elicit pangs of empathy from their beholders.
