David Alexander: The Shape of Place

January 14 to March 25, 2012
The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to present this survey show of Lake Country-based artist David Alexander. Alexander works in a modern landscape idiom and has travelled widely so that his imagery is international, as well as depicting many regions of Canada. He likes to seek out places without a great deal of human footprint and strives to capture and convey the basic essence and natural histories of the places he paints.
Alexander works in acrylic on canvas and usually in large scale. The Treadgold/Bullock Gallery will have a comprehensive selection of these paintings installed, on loan from other galleries, corporations and private collectors, as well as from the artist. In the Reynolds Gallery will be sketchbooks in vitrines, and installations of works on paper, some done in situ on painting trips, and small acrylic-on-panel paintings.
